ASCOT FESTIVAL PREVIEW

Day 2 of the three day Ascot Festival dominates tomorrow’s English Racing and features the Group 1 Royal Lodge for 2yo colts and geldings; The Group 1 Fillies Mile for 2yo fillies; and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes for 3yo and up. All 3 races are over a mile.

The going is on currently good but heavy rain is forecast and soft ground should prevail by first post tomorrow.

The Royal Lodge (8:30 a.m.) is a no-brainer:

Horse #2 FRANKEL (BANKER BET)

The Fillies Mile (9:05 a.m.):

I’m giving the Fillies mile favourite White Moonstone a swerve.  She’s suspect on ground softer than good and at a mile.  I’ll have my two shillings on #3 Theyskens’ Theory who was impressive on soft ground when winning a Group 3 at Goodwood on last.

SELECTION:  Horse #3 THEYSKENS’ THEORY

The Queen Elizabeth II (4:15 p.m.)

The defection of Canford Cliffs seems to have handed the QEII to French 3yo Makfi on a silver platter but he flopped at Royal Ascot and seems very one dimensional (needs to dominate) so I’m going to take RIP VAN WINKLE (who was only 1/2l behind Canford Cliffs at Royal Ascot) to upset the howling favourite in this one.

SELECTION:    RIP VAN WINKLE
LAY OF THE DAY:    MAKFI

But the very best value bet (NAP) on tomorrow’s English Programme runs at Chester (10:05 a.m.) where Michael Stoute’s JUDICIOUS (Horse # 3) is a cracking good bet to release the maiden tag.

TOMORROW’S ENGLISH RACING RACING TOP THREE:

#2 FRANKEL (BANKER BET; Royal Lodge; 8:30; Ascot);
#3 JUDICIOUS (BEST VALUE BET; 10:05; Chester)
#2 RIP VAN WINKLE (QEII; 4:15; Ascot).

I also love SUNNY GAME (2.35; Haydock) at a great ew price.  He looked like he hated the ground at Chester in May when 1 1/2l and a nk 3rd to Zuider Zee (now rated 90) and Bowdler’s Magic (now rated 91).

He’s been gelded, rested and brought back in the autumn on soft ground still rated only 82.  Get in early and often!!
Good Luck
