Saturday’s two feature races at Newmarket are the seven furlongs Group 1 Dewhurst for 2 year olds which is usually an excellent pointer for the following year’s 2,000 Guineas and the Cesarewitch Handicap over 2 1/4 miles.  In the Dewhurst, Richard Hannon has another top class 2 year old in # 1 BRONTERRE (BANKER BET) who has been working like a well oiled machine at home and has the most impressive form easily clearing away final furlong on last in winning a listed race at Goodwood by 5 lengths.  That was on good to soft but my mole in the stable assures me that Saturday’s faster ground will not be a problem.  This is one to bet on and an ante-post punt on him to win next year’s 2,000 Guineas won’t go far astray.

In the Cesarewitch, where low number draws have always dominated, the three to concentrate on are # 1 Mount Athos (has his quirks being a son of Montjeu but looked a horse to follow at extreme distances when 4th in the Chester Cup earlier in the year); # 12 Ermyn Lodge (as game and genuine a front runner as they come who will prove hard to pass); and # 29 BEYOND (nap) who is just the sort of lightly raced 4 year old whose profile fits this race perfectly.  Trained by top jumps trainer David Pipe (son of The Maestro Martin Pipe), he has won 3 of his 4 flat starts including producing an improved effort on last stepped up to 14f at Sandown.  The selection # 29 BEYOND (nap) is open to any amount of improvement at this sort of journey and is a first rate bet.

Good Luck!
