BREEDERS CUP PREVIEW 2012 (FRIDAY)

Here’s a brief preview of Ladies Day.  Again, times are Jamaican.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint (6f; Dirt; 3.06 pm)

The key to understanding this race isn’t form but the fact that no 2yo will be allowed race day medication at this year’s Breeders Cup.  So a chance is taken with CEILING KITTY who is accustomed to doing without thehelp of drugs on race days in England.

SELECTION     #2     CEILING KITTY

Breeders’ Cup Marathon (Grade 2; 1 ¾ miles; Dirt; 3.48 pm)

The Americans are likely to fail to see out this trip and the Euros not to act on the surface so the South Americans must have a glorious chance here.  The best of them is CALIDOSCOPIO

SELECTION     #6     CALIDOSCOPIO

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (Grade 1; 1 mile; Turf; 4.28 pm)

Lots of lightly raced improvers here but again race day medication will be denied so SKY LANTERN and Waterway Run should have it between them.  The former is best at the trip.

SELECTION     #3     SKY LANTERN

Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (Grade 1; 8.5f; Dirt; 5.08 pm)

Kauai Katie will be all the rage but she is heading into uncharted territory at 8.5f and surely must give way to stronger stayers Dreaming of Julia and EXECUTIVEPRIVILEGE whose home field advantage gives her the edge.

SELECTION     #2     EXECUTIVEPRIVILEGE

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Grade 1; 1 ¼ miles; Turf; 5.48 pm)

THE FUGUE (BANKER BET) will be perfectly suited by all the conditions here and it’ll take a smart American to best her.

SELECTION     #4     THE FUGUE (BANKER BET)

Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (Grade 1; 9f; Dirt; 6.30 pm)

Three Breeders Cup winners meet here.  Last year’s Ladies Classic winner Royal Delta will be a hot favourite but the fact that connections were considering a tilt at the Classic on Saturday tells the tale as this trip is a bare minimum for her and she could well find it not as easy around this sharp track as it was at the more galloping Churchill Downs track last year.  2011 Juvenile Fillies winner My Miss Aurelia has proven tricky to train although 2 for 2 this year after suffering sore shins.  There’s a stamina query about her so it’s the unbeaten AWESOME FEATHER to which we must turn.

SELECTION     #5     AWESOME FEATHER (NAP OF THE DAY)

  • Day’s Best 3:                                                                                                                                                                                                    SKY LANTERN (Juvenile Fillies Turf)                                                                                                                                       THE FUGUE (Filly & Mare Turf)                                                                                                                                      AWESOME FEATHER (Ladies Classic)
  • LAY OF THE DAY:        KAUAI KATIE (Juvenile Fillies)

  • EXACTA BOX OF THE DAY EXECUTIVEPRIVILEGE/Dreaming of Julia(Juvenile Fillies)

Good Luck!
